How to play Maze Escape

  1. Reach the flag at the bottom-right corner from your starting square at top left. Walls block movement; the maze always has a route to the exit.
  2. Tap an adjacent cell or use the four direction buttons. Arrow keys work when focus is on the page rather than a form control. Each successful step counts once.
  3. Daily maze uses your device’s local calendar date. Random maze creates a fresh layout. New game restarts the selected type; best steps is a browser record across layouts, so compare the same layout for a fair replay.

Maze Escape practice guide

Remember the last junction

When a corridor branches, keep track of the junction you just left. A dead end is useful information: return to that junction and try an unexplored branch rather than wandering through the same corridor again. The small grid makes it possible to plan several turns ahead without moving. Follow open edges between squares; two cells that look close can still be separated by a wall.

A branch closes after two turns

You leave a three-way junction, turn right, then discover a closed corridor. Walk back to the original junction and take its other open route. Turning randomly at every intermediate corner adds steps without revealing new territory. On a second attempt at the daily maze, use what you learned about that branch to skip it.

A focused practice session

  1. Pause at every junction and identify the route you arrived from.
  2. Complete today’s maze once, then restart the same daily layout.
  3. Compare your second route with the first, counting avoidable returns.

What to keep in mind

Random layouts have different route lengths. A lower raw step count on a different maze does not prove a better route. The daily layout follows the date on this device.
