Whack-a-Mole

Tap moles as they pop up. Gold moles are worth extra — bombs cost you points, so don't tap those.

How to play Whack-a-Mole

Moles pop up at random from the nine holes and duck back down after a short moment. Tap or click a mole before it disappears to score points. Occasionally a golden mole appears — worth triple points — or a bomb, which costs you points if you tap it. You've got 30 seconds to score as much as you can.

Tips for a higher score

Keep your eyes on the whole grid rather than staring at one hole — moles appear anywhere, and reaction time matters more than prediction. As the round goes on, moles pop up faster and stay up for less time, so don't get thrown off when the pace suddenly increases. It's almost always worth skipping a bomb even if it means missing the next mole; the point penalty is bigger than any single mole is worth.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I tap a bomb? You lose points and the hole flashes red — bombs are never worth tapping.

How much are golden moles worth? Three times a normal mole's points, but they appear rarely and only stay up briefly.

Does the game get harder over time? Yes — moles pop up more frequently and duck back down faster as the 30-second timer runs down.

Whack-a-Mole practice guide

Recognise the target before tapping

Watch the whole nine-hole grid and tap only a visible mole. A normal mole adds ten points, a golden mole adds thirty, and a bomb removes twenty with the total kept at zero or above. The run lasts thirty seconds. As targets become quicker, a deliberate missed mole can be less costly than a rushed tap on a bomb. Keep your hand positioned so one corner does not become a blind spot.

A fast tap can reduce a good sequence

One normal mole and one golden mole give forty points. Tapping a bomb afterwards reduces that total to twenty; skipping the bomb keeps all forty. This is why accuracy can matter more than increasing the number of taps. A bomb appearing next to a valuable target is a recognition problem, not a reason to tap both holes quickly.

A focused practice session

  1. Use one run to learn the appearance of normal moles, golden moles and bombs.
  2. In the next run, prioritise a clean sequence with no bomb taps.
  3. After the timer ends, compare your own score and the mistakes you remember; avoid attributing every difference to reaction speed because spawns vary.

What to keep in mind

The game rewards hits, not tapping empty holes repeatedly. Golden moles are worth three normal hits, but reaching for one should not mean hitting an adjacent bomb. Best score is saved on this browser rather than shared between devices.
